Thailand and Hong Kong, China win promotion from Asia/Oceania II

Thailand and Hong Kong, China finished first and second respectively in this year’s Asia/Oceania Group II event in Kuala Lumpur to seal promotion to Group I next season.

Pracharapol Khamsaman’s Thai team, who finished top of Pool A during the round-robin phase of the competition, were imperious in the 1st-3rd place play-offs, defeating both Hong Kong, China and hosts Malaysia 3-0 to secure first place.
Hong Kong, China overcame Malaysia 2-0 in what proved to be a crucial match-up to decide second place.
At the other end of the table, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were relegated after finishing bottom of Pools B and C respectively.
The final standings were as follows:
1 – Thailand (promoted)
2 – Hong Kong, China (promoted)
3 – Malaysia
4 – Indonesia
5 – Mongolia
6 – Uzbekistan
7 – TBC (Iran/Kyrgyzstan/Singapore)

10 – Pakistan (relegated)
11 – Sri Lanka (relegated)
