Going up: Cyprus promoted to Europe II

Cyprus will compete in Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Europe Group II next season after winning promotion from the Group III event that took place at the Chisinau Arena Tennis Club in Moldova last week.

The Cypriots, who were undefeated all week, clinched promotion following a thrilling tie against Finland on Saturday.

With both sides knowing that a win would be enough to see them through to Group II next season, Daria Frayman put Cyprus in front with a singles victory against Laura Hietaranta before Anastasia Kulikova clinched a point for the Finns against Raluca Georgiana Serban.

Frayman and Serban sealed victory in the doubles match, defeating Hietaranta and Kulikova 5-7 6-1 [10-5] to cap a memorable week.

The final standings were as follows:
